Our ancestors were here first, and it was the sleek longship, the steed of the waves, that plowed the New World’s waters, not Spanish caravels. It was not Rodrigo de Triana who sighted the Americas from the Pinta on October 12, 1492 but some nameless Norse mariner some five centuries before. Neither was Columbus the first to bring a Native American home to Europe; there too the Norse were first.
